14h00 to 15h00 Lecture No. 13 - Mike Sander - Photoshop

(I always supplement my lectures with notes that cover all the material in detail so that those attending can listen and concentrate instead of scribbling notes. These will be e-mailed to participants after the lectures.
Each lecture is 45 minutes. We will be covering quite a lot of ground in a short time. They are planned as a sequence so that those attending the first and second lectures will get a grounding to allow them to get value out of the third lecture. But more experienced Photoshop users can join at any point that suits them.)
First lecture :
Introduction to image processing.
Understanding the digital image.
Capturing the ideal image (Ideal for subsequent processing and optimisation).
Using Photoshop to evaluate images and plan a processing strategy.
Avoiding common processing pitfalls and abusing images.
Basic image processing (Crop, Improving brightness, contrast and colour)
This lecture is intended for users fairly new to Photoshop. Its aim is to help them work logically with understanding of what is happening to the image, rather than just applying Photoshop tools following a set formula.

15h15 to 16h00 Lecture No. 14 - Mike Sander - Photoshop
Processing the whole image (global processing).
Common pitfalls – excessive saturation, sharpening artefacts, noise, posterisation, poor highlight detail (blown out), poor shadow detail(blocked), poor contrast management (flat middle tones).
Straightforward image processing to achieve optimum results.
This lecture is also for the less experienced but it may appeal to photographers with more experience in Photoshop. It aims at using the tools correctly and avoiding or dealing with common pitfalls. How to stop short of overcorrection.

16h00 to 16h15 Tea at Suiderlig Dienssentrum
16h15 to 17h00 Lecture No. 15 - Mike Sander - Photoshop
Correcting parts of the image (local processing)
Use selections or layer masks?
Some useful techniques for targeted local corrections.
This lecture is more advanced. It makes use of layers and layer masks to apply corrections to local areas of images. Some techniques are covered that I have found very useful and easy to use for these kinds of correction.

17h00 to 19h00 Free time

Sunset at 18h02

19h00 to 20h00 Supper at Suiderlig Dienssentrum
4 course dinner with wine tasting

20h00 to 22h00 Projection and judging of AV competition entries.
